Embryo Salad

I was in a surgical room waiting to have an abortion. I was really afraid. There was a cat running through the surgical room, and I made a mental note about how unsanitary that was. The nurses were discussing how to give me the abortion and none of them seemed to know what they were doing. I said I was going to go get the doctor myself, but they told me he was very busy and that he wouldn’t have time for me.

I went out to find him anyway and he came back with me immediately. He was very nice. Suddenly the abortion was over. He put the embryo in a ramekin and put the ramekin in a white bakery box with a clear, cellophane top. Then he covered it with a bunch of leafy greens, strawberries, and avocados. It looked really pretty and as he gave it to me he laughed and made a joke about showing it to the protesters in the lobby.

Then I was showing the salad to Megan. I was telling her about my experience, but when I was telling her about it, the doctor was Mark and we thought that made perfect sense.
